About Our Group

Comber Flower Club offer a  varied programme with demonstrations by talented floral designers, talks, workshops, member’s nights finishing in May with a garden visit supper and our AGM.

During the year we hold extra workshops not on a club night, including seasonal themes and opportunities to learn new skills which members enjoy, fun in a friendly atmosphere with refreshments to conclude the evening.

Alternative years we hold an Open Demonstration which is hosted by the Chairman, this is a Charity Event, and members choose the charity by a vote this is one of the highlights of our club.

In October and April we run club competitions for our members. The winner of the October novice class goes to represent the club at NIGFAS day.

Within the club we are very fortunate to have members who over the years have become qualified teachers, demonstrators, speakers, and judges of floral art. A lot of our members have taken part in many local Church Flower Festivals which gives us great enjoyment as well as those who visit the festival. Some from the club have competed at World and National level also at Chelsea Flower Show.

In 2002 Frances Brown a past chairman was asked to lead a small team to design the Northern Ireland Exhibit at Floramondi - 7th World Flower Show WAFA being held in Glasgow, it was an amazing experience.

In 2014 our founder secretary and past chairman Mary Pearson along with her friend Ann Trainor from Armagh Club were asked to lead the team designing and staging the large exhibit at Chelsea Flower Show on behalf of NAFAS gaining a silver medal.

Barbara Megarry our founder treasurer and past chairman was also on the team. A lot of our club members have served as NIGFAS Area Office Bearers and Committee also on JDSE and Inspiration Committees.

Joan Magee our past chairman has been made a NAFAS Associate of Honour which is a fabulous achievement. We have members who have served on NAFAS Committees. Joan Magee and Julie Carse have become NAFAS Board Trustees (Directors).

As founding chairman I am so proud of all our endeavours over the last thirty years, plus all the fun and friendships made through flowers along the way.

In 2014, our founder Secretary and past Chairman, Mary Pearson, together with her friend Ann Trainor from Armagh Flower Club, was invited to lead the team designing and staging a major NAFAS exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The exhibit was awarded a prestigious Silver Medal. Our founder Treasurer and past Chairman, Barbara MeGarry, was also a member of the team.

Many Comber Flower Club members have also served NIGFAS as Area Office Bearers and committee members, as well as contributing to the JDSE and Inspirations Committees. Our members have also played important roles at national level through NAFAS.

Past Chairman Joan Magee was awarded the distinction of becoming a NAFAS Associate of Honour, a wonderful recognition of her contribution to floral art. Both Joan Magee and Julie Carse have also served as NAFAS Board Trustees (Directors).

We are immensely proud of everything Comber Flower Club and its members have achieved over the past thirty years. Just as importantly, the Club has created countless happy memories, lasting friendships and many wonderful experiences, all brought together through a shared love of flowers and floral art.
